My parents and I went to @Bab Al Shams Desert Resort & Spa. It's only about a 35 minute drive from Motor City. It's a very traditional and bedouin style 5 star hotel where you can swim, have a lunch buffet, and I believe go horse back riding all in one day. There are some other activities as well depending on the day of the week.

Musandam in Oman is a great scuba diving destination in Oman. A few hours from Dubai, the scenery is a breath of fresh air.
